Day 10: Banff to Moosejaw

Well, today has been weird.  Although we did sort of expect it to be.

We left Banff after breakfast, and after about an hour of driving east, the Rockies just…. stop.  It’s bizarre, there’s really no foothills or anything; one minute you’re staring at beautiful snow covered peaks and the next minutes it’s flat plains for endless miles in front of you.

We did find our new favorite road sign: “Important Intersection Ahead”.  Which I think is just dissing all the other ‘unimportant’ intersections.

I made the mistake of falling asleep at one point, and the next thing I know Jon is making a u-turn and we are headed for Vulcan, Alberta.  In all fairness to my husband, I did find this place on one of those ‘weird’ websites and mentioned it to him.  And you do have to give the townspeople credit for coming up with a creative way to play off the name of their town.  But the result is just indescribably strange:

After leaving Vulcan, we drove through the most endless miles of farmland and prairie.  This was basically the view out of the windshield for about 400 miles:

Thank God for podcasts.  Anyway, we did finally make it to Moose Jaw and had a lovely dinner.

I have to add, today is our 29th wedding anniversary.  I don’t often tell my husband as much as I should how much I love and appreciate him.  I certainly didn’t know when we met (when I was 17, mind you) that I’d found the love of my life, but I did.  I can’t wait for the next 29 years.
