Today was the day we’ve been most looking forward to – the Cabot Trail through the Cape Breton Highlands Park. We had some camera mishaps, so we aren’t sure if we’re going to be able to recover our pictures or not, but fingers are crossed (what’s the point of being two computer nerds if we can’t fix this?!)
It was an an absolutely beautiful day through some seriously dramatic scenery. Unfortunately the pics from the first part of the drive along the St. Lawrence coast are the problem ones, so I can’t post any. But we thoroughly enjoyed the drive, and of course stopped every 10 feet like we always do.
After heading across the island, we hit (temporarily) the park boundary, and went north along local roads to St. Lawrence Bay where we had a picnic lunch at the end of the world:
While we were hanging out on the dock, one of the locals stopped to talk to us. He was so nice and sweet, but between the 80 year old fisherman, the utter lack of teeth and the intense Scottish brogue, about all we got out of the conversation was ‘mauwhdm mmmsiuhs gteidhr’. And I’m pretty sure as soon as they drove away his wife poked him and said ‘Angus, that girl’s hair was purple!’
Continuing on, we drove down the Atlantic side of the park, which was almost as beautiful:
After a lovely dinner, we’re having a nice glass of whiskey in the pub to celebrate our last night in Cape Breton. It’s been lovely, we’ll have to come back.
