We went a little off script today.
First we stopped at North America’s oldest existing grocery store – it’s been in business continuously since 1871. We had fun poking around although we didn’t buy too much. The fudge sausage proved too tempting to resist. We have no idea what it is, but since it’s chocolate, how bad could it possibly be? It’s certainly odd looking.
Then we drove north about 25 miles to the Parc National de Jacques-Cartier. It’s a beautiful nature preserve with mountains and rivers running through it:
We did a short hike, just 2.5 miles alongside a babbling brook:
And then drove all the way up the river, nearly to the end of the park. It was beautiful and very serene, just our thing. After another lovely dinner, some ice cream and a walk, we are done with Quebec.
