Day 3: Seattle

Today we played tourist in Seattle.

We started the day at the Museum of Pop, or MoPOP.  The museum is sort of divided into two parts – we visited the ‘music’ section first.  As soon as you walk in, we found this incredible sculpture:

Then we visited the Jimi Hendrix exhibit and the guitar gallery.  They had the most incredible collection of guitars, from the earliest examples to guitars that belonged to some famous rockers.  I was really having a moment looking at the guitar that Eric Clapton used to compose ‘Layla’ and the guitar that Pete Townshend used to write ‘Pinball Wizard’.

Then we moved to the ‘pop culture’ side of the museum, where we turned into complete geeks.  Even I thought the Star Trek exhibit was awesome, although not as much as Jon:

Next stop was the Chihuly Garden.  For those of you who don’t know, Dale Chihuly is a glass artist, and one of my favorite artists of all time.  I’ve been so excited about this one stop I haven’t stopped talking about it for weeks.  And of course Jon’s done nothing but laugh at me about it that whole time.  Then we walked into the museum, and we were both simply blown away:

Just absolutely amazing what that man does with glass.  If you ever have the opportunity to see his works, don’t miss it, these pictures don’t even begin to do the art justice. As we were tired of walking by then, we decided to take a drive up the coast a bit, and ended up in a town called Mokilteo, just opposite Whidby Island:

For dinner we walked to a local sushi place called Umi, in Belltown, and had in all seriousness the best sushi either one of us has ever eaten.  I could see moving to Seattle just to eat there again, it was that good.
