Day 5: Vancouver

Today was an Adventure.  With a capital A.

We started the day at Stanley Park, which is pretty awesome.  We explored the park both on foot and driving, because it’s just enormous – bigger than Central Park.  Definitely the best part was the totem poles:

After that we went back into Vancouver and drove to Granville Island, which is this funky little artist/tourist destination.  First stop was an artisan broom store – which sounds seriously weird but in fact was completely awesome.  I have to say, if that thing about witches flying on brooms was true, this is where you’d want to buy your broom.  Comfortable sweeping, too.

Then we wandered into an art gallery with the most beautiful native art – probably one of the few times in my life I wished I had a lot more money so we could have actually bought one of those paintings.

Granville Island still houses the original cement factory, and someone there clearly has a sense of humor:

Especially because we saw a dump truck painted to look like a bunch of asparagus on our way on to the island.

After lunch we drove out to the Capilano Suspension Bridge, which is one of Vancouver’s big attractions.  Jon and I crossed this thing twice:

because all the other stuff to do is on the other side of the bridge, and at some point you actually have to leave the park.  You would need to understand how much I really don’t like heights to appreciate how hard that was – especially with all the crazy people who kept stopping to take selfies, unlike those of us who just wanted to get across without passing out.  Bear in mind the damn thing is a couple of hundred feet up and sways.  But I did it and I’m proud of myself.

Anyway, once we were across there was a lovely walk through the woods. You can even go into the treetops, which was pretty cool:

Time for some more sushi and a very large glass of wine.
