Happily the weather today was great, blue skies and sunshine all around.
We started the day by treating ourselves to breakfast in town, at the same place we had dinner last night. Yummy.
We decided to hike Green Gardens, which is back on the southern side of the park. We could see the fog hanging around the coastline when we got to the trailhead:
It looked so cool just hanging low like that.
The hike itself is one of the main attractions of Gros Morne. We started out on the Tablelands again, then went through a pine and birch forest (which are pretty much the standard trees everywhere on the island we’ve been so far), and then finally came out on a meadow on the highlands just above the beach.
The coastline was amazing. We didn’t quite make it down to the actual beach, the stairs were just a little more than either of us was comfortable tackling. That pesky ‘don’t like heights thing’ struck again.
We were having a nice lunch and enjoying a rest at a picnic table when we heard this strange ‘baa’ sound. We walked along the meadow a bit, and suddenly came upon on a flock of sheep:
Once we saw them I remembered reading in the guidebook that the sheep often graze along there. They were cute, there were some lambs as well.
The only real downside to the hike was that it descended most of the way there, which meant we had to climb back up again. But with a couple of rest stops, we managed just fine.
We tried a different restaurant for dinner, and it was lovely. The dining room sat on a bluff above the bay, and we were treated to the sight of a minke whale swimming around. Very cool indeed.
As always the trip looks fantastic
Love the elk
Stay safe
Lots of love
