Well. We really didn’t intend to wait quite so long to go on another road trip, but it’s been a rather eventful few years to say the least.
First there was the pandemic. You remember that, I’m sure. Not much to say about it except to be thankful we survived without anything terribly major happening.
Then Jon had some pretty significant health issues, and had to have a transplant. A little more than a year later, he’s doing just great.
So it’s time. This year we are driving down the East Coast to see my mom, who lives near Fort Lauderdale. After visiting for a couple of days, we’re going to head back north and stop at the Kennedy Space Center. We’re staying in Cocoa Beach, because neither of us could resist our memories of Major Nelson and Jeannie.
Then we’re heading up to Charleston, South Carolina. I’ve never been, and have always wanted to see it – everyone I’ve talked to says it’s just beautiful.
After a couple of days exploring the city, we’re off to the Blue Ridge Mountains for some hiking. We were actually here back in June and it was lovely. This time we’re planning to head into West Virginia and hike the New River Gorge, which looks pretty spectacular.
We haven’t decided whether to head home from there, or do some more exploring. I guess we’ll see how we feel at the time.
I just have to make it through this last week of work, and we’re off.
Safe travels! You will love Charleston. I would recommend checking out “Church and Union” for a cocktail on Market Street. Good drinks, and unique atmosphere.
